Health care providers can help those SCT survivors facing ongoing health problems with coping and adaptation by providing education, counseling and aggressively treating active health problems.

Ernest H. Rosenbaum, MD- Turmeric is an Indian spice often used to treat cancer. In traumatic brain injury stroke or Alzheimers, curcumin can be protective. Cinnamon may be a good adjuvant treatment for diabetes. Ginger has been used with chemotherapy to reduce nausea and osteoarthritis. Genistein an isoflavone phytoestrogen is a natural selective estrogen receptor modulator with a positive regulatory bone cell metabolism. Lycopene seems to have a DNA protective role with antioxidant power and ability to stimulate enzymes that deactivate carcinogens. Flaxseed a source of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) may have anticancer effects, help prevent heart attacks and lower cholesterol and antioxidant properties. Lignans are found in sesame and pumpkin seeds, cranberries, tea and coffee.
