The Kaiser oncology department is pleased to offer the Cancer Supportive Care Program (CSCP) without charge to any cancer patient in the community. This program reflects our commitment to supporting the cancer patient's physical, mental, and spiritual needs. Research suggests that patient education and support enhances quality of life and empowers individuals to participate more fully in their treatment.

The program provides multidisciplinary information and services. Various members of the health care team conduct weekly lectures on a wide variety of topics that are of vital concern. Some recent topics have been dealing with chemotherapy side effects, yoga for health, meditation, disability issues, acupuncture and herbs, and The Art and Science of Forgiveness. In addition to guest speakers, one of our oncologists is available each week to address treatment related questions and issues.

Medical oncologist Dr. Ernest H. Rosenbaum of the UCSF/Mt. Zion Cancer Center designed the program, which is offered at the Stanford Complementary Medicine Clinic. The program is the result of Dr. Rosenbaum's long years of oncology practice that convinced him of the need to support the whole person. The oncology staff gratefully acknowledges Dr. Rosenbaum's generous support in helping to establish this program at Kaiser.

We welcome suggestions for speakers or topics, and we look forward to sharing with you at one of our meetings,
